We are all socially conditioned in some way, shape or form just by absorbing the exterior influences around us.
Friends, family, schools etc. seem to have a bias that would favor our well being.

The media, however, has its’ own agenda. I believe, for the most part, to keep fueling our capitalistic greed. This has quite an impact on our society that should be addressed because it creates a warped sence of perception of the world around us.
Politically speaking, I can’t help but notice that when it comes to our Federal election (Canadian), that the media has already weeded out potential candidates as possible future leaders by simply ignoring them.

Independants as well as leaders of smaller parties get zero media coverage as potential future Prime Ministers. The media has already decided for us that we only need to be concerned with a select 3 or 4 candidates. Hardly democratic.
ALL potential PM’s should have equal media coverage. Coverage equals exposure. Exposure=winning.

I don’t know how to save the rest of the world, but I haven’t had a TV since 1972. Perhaps public financing of campaigns would diminish the influence of corporate media?

you’re completely right. given that social conditioning is most influential when we’re young, start with youth and adolescents. expose the media’s biases and expose human biases (racism, excessive consuming).

as for now… pressure your Representative for campaign reform with letters and phone calls and email local and larger networks with your discontent.

talk to your friends and co-workers about upcoming elections and empower them with facts so that they will spread the word. word of mouth is POWERFUL. ask everyone to do a little something… even if its just signing a petition. people generally like to do things if you’ve convinced them and you just ask. and if you sense they might want to do more, suggest a way.

Being a good representative becomes not possible in a short time. Someone must build up his image by hard working for his ideal and having contacts with many people, helping them.
When he is doing that well, media will have interest in him; there is also the party he belongs who will see his a good fellow.
